Judging at the 2012 NC State Fair

Joe Meno and I are again judging the LEGO competition (see page 7 of section EE of the North Carolina State Fair Premium Book) at the 2012 North Carolina State Fair.  The entry deadline was was last Thursday (September 20th), I hope everyone got their entries in on time!  I think this is the 5th or 6th year Joe and I have been judges.  It is fun to see what the kids come up with, there is always something we’re really impressed with.

Hopefully this year will see some good entries in the “North Carolina Theme” category.  There tends to be fewer entries in this category than in the general category.  NCLUG will have a display on exhibit at the fair, it will be with the LEGO entries so keep an eye open for it.

Just checking- I think the entries have to be original. meaning you have to come up with something using your imagination. You should not submit a Star Wars death star even though it’s from your imagination and it’s NOT from a kit. Is this correct?

You can submit a model of something like the Death Star as long as it is original work. If a model is fully or partially (enough to be recognized) based on a LEGO set it will be disqualified. Unfortunately we have to do this several times each year and when we do, we write “DQ” on the back of the entry tag.
