New look for my LEGO blog

This evening I installed a new theme for my LEGO blog. This blog is run by WordPress and WordPress allows a site to be styled using what is called a theme. I have wanted to build a new theme for my site for a while and I have been working on a LEGO theme based on the Sandbox theme for a while. In the last few days I finally had some time to really work on it and finish it up enough to start using it.

The theme supports a number of color schemes and it will take me a little while to get them all done. Right now I have three, red, blue, and green, working. Adding colors isn�t hard, just picking some colors that look good together and adding them to the script which generates the CSS files.

No LEGO news but I did update this web site with the latest version of WordPress (2.5.1).� I went ahead an installed some of the plugins as well.� Most of them run behind the scenes so readers won’t see anything.

Not much new on the LEGO front.� I am not doing anything meaningful other than playing with the couple mini sets I have on my desk at work.� I am seriously considering packing my stuff up for a while and putting it away.� I had lunch with Cary Clark last week and he is in a similar situation.� No real enthusiasm to do anything new but not really interested in unloading everything either.

My blog has been offline for about a month since Northstar Computers lost their database server.� It was an odd situation in that they lost the server and all of the backups were corrupted.� Ouch.� It affected this site as well as many others including the ones I take care of (ILTCO, NCLTC, and NCLUG).� I had a backup from last November but it turns out that since I had run the backup, the database format WordPress uses changed slightly so I couldn’t simply reload the data, I had to massage it first.� I kept putting it off but now have taken care of it and all of the content has been restored thanks to my backup and the Web Archive’s Wayback Machine.� ILTCO is fixed as well but I have yet to touch either NCLTC or NCLUG.

WordPress Update

I finally installed the WP2 update for this blog. I suspect the reason I was getting so many SPAM comments was due to having the older (1.5) version of WP installed. The installation went smoothly and while I was at it, I incorporated a bunch of old CTB news as WP posts. Posts now date back to late 2000 and feature some of the custom kits I released several years ago.

Unfortunately I was getting a bunch of SPAM comment posts so I have had to turn on the User Registration and Login Required to Comment options. As I don’t have many comments, I don’t see this as a big issue!
