LEGO Exhibit at 2010 NC State Fair

NCLUG will have a small exhibit on display as part of the LEGO area in the Hobbies and Crafts building at the 2010 NC State Fair.  For the past several years I have judged the LEGO competition (which is not open to adults) and we’ve asked about getting an Adult category.  This year we have an opportunity to exhibit which is the first step in getting an adult category established.

I am coordinating this exhibit via NCLUG.  Yesterday Joe Meno and I met with the woman who runs the Hobbies and Crafts building to see what sort of space we’d have available.  It is a long skinny space so we’ve decided to do a row of Cafe Corner style MOCs.  We’re hoping to have 8-10 of them from various members on display.

More details to come later.  The actual exhibit will be on display for the duration of the Fair, October 15-24.

My LEGO Vault “For Sale” list

Update: 9/11/2010

All items are no longer available.  As of tonight I received an offer for the whole lot which I have accepted. So unless something happens and the deal falls through, I have sold entire contents of my vault!

As I noted in a post yesterday, I am planning to part with a fair number of sets and accessory packs that I have had in storage for a number of years.  Today I’ve gone through and created an inventory of what’s in the “to go” list and added some BrickLink reference links and prices.

There is some good stuff in here – 20 year old service packs, 12v train sets, 9v train sets, classic Town sets – and more.

I included the BrickLink prices as  a reference. Some of them are downright silly ($25 for a 3938 minifig?) but in  a lot of cases, BrickLink shows what the market values these items at.  That said, I am more than willing to negotiate, particularly for large orders.  I also offer no hassle pricing – 25% below BrickLink ASP for last six months.

If you are interested in buying the whole lot, contact me and let’s chat!  I’ll listen to any reasonable offer for all of it (or a significant portion of it).

Download a copy of the inventory below.  A row highlighted in red means that I have already sold all copies of that item.

Going through my LEGO vault

A while back I mentioned on the NCLUG mailing list that we were doing some renovation work on our house and when it was complete, I would moving my office and LEGO room out of the basement up to what used to be a bedroom.  When the time came, I mentioned I plan to go through many of the boxes I have piled up and determine what I should keep and what I should part with.

I started the process today.  Yikes I have a lot of stuff that I had forgotten about.  Some real treasures too!

  • Lots of Service Packs.  I must have several hundred of them.
  • Some old 9V train sets
  • Some old 12V train sets
  • Airline Promos
  • Telecom Promos
  • 15 year old Impulse Buy Town sets
  • Old Town Sets

When we moved 5 years ago I sold a lot of my excess but held on to most of the “Promo” or “Hard to Find” items I had obtained over the years.  Check out this Flickr Gallery to see what sort of things I have.  For the most part, most of what appears in this gallery is available.  I’ll probably keep one copy of each Promo set but the rest of them I will part with.  Contact me directly if you see something you want.

Updated:  9/4/2010

Here is a list of the Service Packs that I have (hopefully no typos):

1627, 3444, 3928, 4444, 4451, 4459, 5011, 5030, 5034, 5119, 5120, 5120, 5125, 5147, 5149, 5164, 5168, 5185, 5186, 5187, 5188, 5190, 5194, 5196, 5227, 5393, 5398, 5415, 5873, 10090

You should be able to find most, if not all, of these on BrickSet. For example, here is the query for 5187.

LEGO Games Tour coming to Raleigh

We received our copy of the LEGO Club Magazine this week and it contained a flyer advertising the LEGO Games Tour. I noticed that Raleigh was on the list and it is coming up in a couple weeks.  The Games Tour will visit Raleigh July 16-18, 2010 and will be at Moore Square in downtown Raleigh.  Moore Square is where Exploris is.

You can find more information on the tour on the Downtown Raleigh web site.

I am looking for an FLL team in Apex or Cary

My daughter is interested in FLL so I’d like to get her hooked up with an existing team as opposed to starting one from scratch. If you have a community team and are looking for new members as well as mentoring assistance (me), please contact me. I can also offer a pretty extensive LEGO collection to help a team. 😉
