7990 Cement Mixer and 10170 TTX Double Stack Car

7990 Cement Mixer
I was in Schaumburg (Chicago) today for work and had a some time before my
flight home?so I stopped off at Woodfield Mall LEGO Store (conveniently located about?a mile from our Chicago office) to see if they had anything new or interesting.? The Pick-A-Brick choices were pretty weak, certainly nothing I couldn’t live without. The store did have a few sets in a pile at 20% off, including the 10170 TTX set.? I have been meaning to pick another one of these up but had never gotten around to it.? S@H has it for the same price but I went ahead and picked it
up along with the new 7990 Cement Mixer .? The Cement Mixer?is one of the few 2007 sets I was intrigued with as it reminded me of Pierre Normandine’s cement mixers I had seen at BrickFest in 2004.? I was at Toys-R-Us a couple weeks ago and they didn’t have it so when I saw it at the LEGO Store I decided to buy.? I’ll build it at work one of these days!

Enough virtual building …

The first thing I build last night was one of the models I designed on my way home from Munich last week, CTB-5803-LHT. As I feared, I had used to too many of several parts while building it in LDD so I had to modify the design based on the elements in the LHT box. I think the revised version looks a little better too.
CTB-5803-LHT
I will upload the LXF file on Monday (although I am hearing the “go-live” date for LEGOFactory.com might be pushed out a couple days.

Received my LHT today

This morning DHL delivered a LEGO Hobby Train. For working on the LHT project we will receive 3 of the LHT sets, the one I received today is the first one. Since it was shipped from Denmark and not from fulfillment, I received the Internation version of it which is cool. I opened it up and my son Travis started building. He quickly built a locomotive but had used many of the parts I was looking for so he had to take his apart. After I build a couple things he can have at it! Tonight I built one of the other designs I had posted and had to make some modifications to it so now I need to update the LXF file.

LHT Models

Flying to and from Europe last week I killed some time on the plane capturing a several models based on the LEGO Hobby Train palette. Two of these were models I had done during the original UTB project, the other two are new. I plan to upload all four to the LEGOFactory.com site on Monday when it starts accepting LDD 2.0 models. As I have done with all of my other designs, I have given these CTB numbers and added a LHT suffix.

CTB-5800-LHT
CTB-5800-LHT

CTB-5801-LHT
CTB-5801-LHT

CTB-5802-LHT
CTB-5802-LHT

CTB-5803-LHT
CTB-5803-LHT

The CTB-5803-LHT locomotive is a push train, I built a similar train before and never found a powered truck I was happy with. CTB-5800-LHT and CTB-5801-LHT can definitely be built from the LHT box, I need to verify the other two and will try and do that before I upload them.

Picked up 4918 the other day …

4918 Mini Flyers
While I was in Munich last week I picked up the 4918 Mini Flyers set. I really liked most of the X-pods, not so much for the parts but for the aspect that when I was traveling I would pick one up and putz around with it where ever I happened to be. At a $3-$4 price point, they were cheap enough and small enough that I ended up buying quite a few with them. I had not seen the 2007 sets yet other than on the web so I decided to pick up 4918. I usually keep a couple of the Xpods on my desk at work and fiddle with them when I am on a conference call or web meeting. I find they keep me from trying to multitask on my computer and odd as it may sound, engaged in the conversation on the phone.

I like the helicopter 4918 builds, it is the only thing I have built from the set so far but I do miss the Xpod form factor – I liked those round cases. The plastic box 4918 comes in is twice as big as it needs to be for the number of parts in it. It was also 5 Euros (about $6.25) so the price is ticking up in the wrong direction for small impulse purchases as well.Pic
